Bernalillo County Place Matters Team – HIA website

Project Description

Bernalillo County’s Place Matters Team conducted a Health Impact Assessment within the Mountain View neighborhood in southern Albuquerque, New Mexico. The HIA was designed to study the effects of heavy traffic and the lack of safe facilities for bicycling and pedestrians.

Our part of the project was to take the resulting study and create an engaging and accessible presentation that explains what a health impact assessment is and what the Second Street HIA comprised. To do this, we divided the presentation into segments that roughly matched the traditional steps within an HIA, but we swapped technical jargon for simple language. For example, “Project Screening” became “Why 2nd Street?” and “Project Scope” became “What did we look at?”

We used jQuery to create a user experience that allows site visitors to travel at will to any part of the HIA content interactively. Also, we incorporated many of the photos and videos the Place Matters Team had accumulated during the study.

“Yulan Studio did a remarkable job in taking a highly technical health impact assessment document and putting it into a format that is not only beautiful, but easy to understand.”
