John has 30 years experience in marketing communications and public relations. He began working with digital communications in 1979 at United Telecom’s Computer Group (United Telecom is now Sprint Corp.) Since that time, he has worked in electronic publishing, digital video, interactive multimedia and web site development, as well as most forms of print communications and strategic communications planning.
In working with Yulan Studio clients, John typically handles project management tasks, as well as directing all content development and strategic marketing efforts. He also produces all video and audio programming and provides copywriting services.
In addition to his work with Yulan Studio clients, John serves as Education Director on the SMPS Oregon Board of Directors.
Immediately prior to launching Yulan Studio, John served in a variety of management and creative roles with HNTB Corporation, a national architecture/engineering firm. These positions included Director of Communications and Director of Transportation Marketing.
John also wrote the business proposal for HNTB's New Media Group and served as a co-founder of that organization. In this role, he directed all content planning and development, as well as all digital audio and video programming for multimedia CD-ROMs, kiosks, websites and supporting print materials that the Group created for HNTB and its clients.
In addition to HNTB, John held varied management and creative positions with United Telecommunications, Inc.’s group of companies, and within H&R Block’s corporate headquarters operation. His work at these firms included an array of communications specialties, including marketing and corporate communications planning and management, copywriting, video production, electronic publishing, magazine editing, documentation design, public relations and marketing and sales support.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Language Arts/Creative Writing from the University of Kansas.
